Daria Novak Asks…Will Joe Courtney Support Free Speech?
JUNE 23, 2010 Madison CT – Congress is trampling on our right of free speech once again with House Resolution 5175, also known as the Disclose Act. “I strongly urge Rep. Joe Courtney to vote against this latest attempt to shut down free speech in America,” Novak said.
HR 5175 requires gun clubs and other organizations to potentially “disclose” the membership list of their organizations (under Title II of the bill) if within 60 days of an election they mention public officials by name. Novak said: “The Supreme Court has previously ruled in NAACP v. Alabama that membership lists are off limits to government control. We the people, not Congress, control this great nation. It is time Congress started listening to us. We do not want to lose our right of free speech or any other freedom that Congress is attempting to sieze from Americans.”
“Furthermore,” Novak added, “under Title II of the bill, organizations could be required to spend as much as 50% of their ad time on government-written disclosures. As an attorney, Rep. Courtney knows the Supreme Court in Buckley v. Valeo, declared that Americans have a right to voice their opinion to an unlimited extend, if unconnected with a political campaign. This bill, in Sections 201 through 203 potentially puts the US Government’s eyes on Americans who exercise their right of free speech to voice a political opinion. This must stop now.”
NOVAK ASKS REP. JOE COURTNEY….WHERE’S THE BUDGET JOE?
JUNE 23, 2010 Madison, CT — Daria Novak, the Republican endorsed candidate for US Congress in Connecticut’s 2nd District, strongly criticized Rep. Joe Courtney today for not speaking out on the Democratic leadership’s refusal to even try to come up with a budget resolution this year.
“This is a mistake of historic proportions. The Democrats admit they are not bothering to write a budget this year. I am outraged Congress is evading the 1974 Budget Impoundment and Control Law and allowing itself unlimited spending by refusing to develop a budget plan. Joe Courtney knows the people of Eastern CT are tired of the extreme spending in DC. Why isn’t he speaking out and doing something about it?” asked Novak.
Novak added: “Courtney is shirking his responsibility to the voters who work hard to make ends meet. Our Congressman supported the $935 billion in deficit spending last time, and now is silent once again. Congressional spending is out of control. It has a borrowing addiction, is overtaxing the American people, and it must stop now.”
Daria Novak Wins Republican Endorsement for Connecticut’s 2nd District House Seat

On the Road to Being Number Forty….
Madison CT, April 14, 2010 — As we all know Election Day is less than seven months away and we only need forty seats to win back the House. My campaign is on track to be one of those seats we win back by beating Joe Courtney on November 2nd. Our efforts are paying off. This month Erick Erickson’s highly regarded Red State.com added the 2nd Congressional District to the list of Republican targeted seats.

I have a short-term and a long-term strategy that my campaign is executing as we move forward. As I travel the District I am continuously encouraged by the support I have in all areas of the District — From Enfield to Thompson, from Stonington to Madison, and from so many towns in between. Going out and talking to business and community leaders and people from all parts of the District, the message is the same…People want stability, rational decision making and critical thinking from our leaders in Washington! I am honored that so many of you have told me I am the person you are supporting to send to Washington to replace Joe Courtney and the follow the herd Nancy Pelosi mentality!
Thank you and God Bless.
Novak Outraged Rep. Joe Courtney Failed Voters On Healthcare
Healthcare Bill Enslaves American People but Exempts Congress
Madison, CT March 22, 2010 -“healthcare bill is an absolute outrage. I call on Rep. Courtney to explain why he voted for a bill rationing Cancer care by age as stated on page 272 while explicitly exempting Congress from the bill!”
Daria Novak, a Republican candidate for U.S. Congress, today called Courtney’s vote “irresponsible.” She said: “If Courtney read the bill how could he support an act allowing the government to access our personal bank accounts and electronically transfer out our money (pgs. 58-59)? How could he vote to subsidizes union costs (pg. 65) and provide insurance to illegal aliens (pg. 50)? This is wrong. This is not what We the People want from Washington.”
“Congress is deaf to the people’s calls to start over on healthcare. This bill moves us closer to a dictatorship. I’ve said it before. The people of the 2nd District deserve better.”
“Our Congressman failed to listen to his constituents. My Congressional campaign will go after my opponent on the issues and hold him accountable this November when a record number of American citizens turn out to vote. We can return power to the people.”
Daria Novak, US Congressional Candidate in CT’s 2nd District Calls for Full-Time Accountability in Hartford
Madison, CT May 28, 2009 – After this week’s decision to block a probe by the State Legislature’s Committee of Inquiry into campaign law violations, including forgery, by State Senator Joseph Crisco, D-Woodbridge, Daria Novak, Congressional Candidate in CT’s 2nd District, called for reforms in Hartford “to hold politicians accountable to the people of our state now.” “We need standing committees in our State Legislature on conduct and ethical matters that will guarantee the citizens transparency in our government. The people of this state are tired of partisan politics and deserve better government. If someone commits a felony they should be held accountable, especially if they are an elected official.” Novak further charged that Senate President Don Williams’, D-Brooklyn, action to stop a probe into State Sen. Joseph Crisco’s violation of campaign laws, is a clear example that the current process is not working. “Crisco admitted to forging campaign finance documents to obtain $85,000 in funding. The people of Connecticut have a right to be angry and a duty to demand change in Hartford. Sen. Williams has lost the trust of the people with his failure to act,” according to Novak. She called for Williams to step down from his leadership position and for the Chief State’s Attorney Kevin Kane to take action immediately. “There are two sets of ethical standards in the Legislature. Just because the Democrat Party has a tight hold in Hartford, it doesn’t mean it can do anything it wants, it should follow rule of law, not serve the interests of career politicians. We need change in Hartford, as well as in Washington,” according to Novak.
Reagan Appointee Taking on Congressman Joe Courtney in Connecticut’s 2nd District

Novak, a conservative Republican, is running a grass roots campaign challenging the Democratic incumbent to explain his tax and spend philosophy and support for the flawed bailout packages. Novak already is receiving conservative support from across the country. She said: “People want principled representatives in Washington. We need candidates who are not afraid to stand up for what they believe in or to speak their mind. I’m taking the campaign to the people. They will have a voice when I am serving them in Washington.” Daria Novak was born and raised in Connecticut. She has served as an adjunct faculty member at Eastern Connecticut State University in Willimantic, CT. She is former President (updated as of Oct 1, 2009) and Founder of ERUdyne, a cross-cultural communications training company.
